March2023: Farewell to Sam

On the 15th March 2023 Cantabile held their last rehearsal under the Music Directorship of singer, pianist & composer Sam Howley.

After 10 years with the choir, Sam had decided to head off to pastures new and relocate to Scotland.

As a choir he had helped us develop an exciting and varied repertoire and we look back on many wonderful concerts directed by Sam. We all have our special favourites of the many fun-filled occasions we can remember with pride and gratitude.

In  2022:  We were awarded  a generous grant .

It would enable our exciting community participation project “Cantabile – Let’s Get Singing”. It’s all about bringing communities together, so they can share and enjoy the benefits of singing and of music.

Through the grant from Pembrokeshire County Council’s Enhancing Pembrokeshire fund, we would be able to provide a series of free concerts to local communities, and give audiences a chance to join in.

After publicising out project far and wide to local organisations we soon had many requests to bring our programme to their community, often helping their fund raising work.

Post-lockdowns: At last, we came back

In September, 2021 our choir returned to weekly rehearsals in Albany Hall, Haverfordwest. It felt so good to sing together after so long!

We became used to  socially distanced singing, taking all reasonable measures to keep each other safe.

And we were finally able to plan public performances again.

Christmas 2021

Our first outing for a long time was on Saturday 4th December when we sang at Milford Waterfront’s day of festive entertainment.

We set up outside Martha’s Vineyard, singing for an hour which really lifted our festive spirits, and those who listened and joined in.

What we did in Lockdown

Lockdown lifted

June 2021: At last, we can meet up again, outside. Off to Bev’s shed for a great sing, and so many laughs.

Lockdown friends

Zoom rehearsals, zoom quizes, zoom drinks – it all helped to stay in touch.

June 2020: Lockdown zoomers enjoying seeing each other, while trying to beat each other in a fun music quiz.

Christmas Carol Singing 2019.

Cantabile Singers of Pembrokeshire spent 2 days at Morrisons in Haverfordwest just before Christmas, entertaining shoppers with Christmas Carols and raised £260 for Morrisons charity of choice Clic Sargent, a children’s cancer charity.

Morrisons have welcomed the choir at Christmas time for quite a while now and  customers look forward to hearing the choir with their pianist/choir director Sam Howley  who is a well known composer, artist, teacher and pianist. He studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

We made it onto TV!  Here’s us singing at S4C’s  Jonathan show
